As part of a guest lecture at NHTV Hotel and Facility Management about prototyping I created a 3D printed trophy for the best failure of the day. We wanted to communicate how important it is in a design process to dare and make mistakes. Lemon is a synonym for failure, but when life gives you lemons – make lemonade.! Just like the invention of Post-It’s: a failure in glue development made it semi-sticky. Someone made the very smart call to turn it into a product you can easily peel off....

3D print of Emmett’s heart gears model (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:243278). mechanized and adapted with symbols, which allow Marquis Events to explain their corporate identity. The heart represents an event, and instead of looking at events as fragmented occurrences Marquis develops event concepts that move from ideation to event to evaluation to ideation again, moving forward in a continuous dynamic....

This contest challenged us with the question: How can you combine the soft sector of care with the hard material steel in a meaningful way.? We chose a very specific target group: people in a wheelchair, and decided not to focus on their limitation – but rather on the advantage their limitation, and how to share that advantage. We created a foldable chair which can be employed by the wheelchair users themselves to invite people to sit with them when the occasion calls for it. The movement performed to fold out the chair is inviting in itself, and the variable angle in which it can be applied combined with its close proximity to the permanent seat create a personal and informal interaction platform. Inviting someone to the same level can completely change the dynamics of a conversation, making our wheelchair-chair a welcome addition to the care sector of...
