In 2019 I assisted SingularityU The Netherlands on average every other month, inspiring their clients (such as DLL, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Infrastructure) with the latest developments in additive manufacturing. The most memorable events have been their signature event offered twice a year: the SU Executive Program. A wide variety of C-level participants are immersed in exponential experiences for a total of 72 hours. In December I got the change to time travel through this event, by hosting a ‘Fire Challenge’ on the first evening – starting a fire using prehistoric tools – and guiding them into the future the second evening with 3D printing. Setup for the 3DEMO at Boshuys...

As my personal give-away I designed a variation on a game I really enjoy called Story Cubes by Rory’s. The concept of the original is to throw some dice and then improvise a short story based on the icons facing up. I wanted to create a more interactive version, so I created three dice (theme, time and emotion) that shape a random question instead of a story. This way one person throws the dice and creates the question, the other person tells a story. I think it suits my work because it’s 3D printed, featuring game mechanics and changing the dialogue....

I’m regularly invited by SingularityU The Netherlands to host the tech demo about digital manufacturing during their innovation programs. Using 3D printed samples of applications with an interesting story I’m simultaneously showcasing many different printable materials (like metal, full color, ceramics, silicone / rubber, wood, high temp, ultra detail, …). With a complementary visual presentation I bring another 50+ stories with me collected in themes like software, hardware, medical, military, fashion and promising experiments. Sometimes I start 3D scanning the participants, and last time even ended up combining their busts with game- or movie characters – edited on the spot and produced right after. ...

I was invited by some members from Founded By All to cooperate in the development of a game that would help representatives of Brainport to share three different scenarios for the future of our economy to entrepreneurs in their network in an engaging way. We developed a game revolving around collecting resources, and the cooperation between start-ups, suppliers and large scale industry. The scenarios were communicated through news flashes like Monopoly’s chance cards, and the game was very well received....

I regularly give 3DEMO’s at Singularity U’s Innovation Hub in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. In 2017 I also got a chance to present some inspiring stories / applications at their major event of the year: The SU Summit. Main themes were Innovative Materials (4D), Artificial Intelligence (Topology Optimization), Medical (Prosthetics), Architecture, Automotive, Fashion, Food, Music and...

I repaired my girlfriend’s (inherited) sugar cup with a story The lid of the cup was missing, and I decided to replace it with a function substitute in the shape of a memory: our first vacation together, a journey to Crete – the Greek island. When I thought back of that holiday the first thing that came to mind was a trip we made on our second day there, when our hotel owners suggested we’d visit Balos Beach, a peninsula in the very west of the island. The road would get bad after a certain point they said, but it would be worth it – so we went for it. And surely, after a while the road got bad. I mean I didn’t get worse, it simply ended. This meant driving off road next to a cliff – in our tiny little rental car – for miles on end. And when we finally arrived at the edge of the mountain it turned out we still had a pretty intense hike in front of us to get down to the water. But when we finally ended up at the beach we had to admit the locals were right, it had all been worth it; Balos Beach was a beautiful lagune, with golden sands, clear water, an amazing view and almost no one else around. Our own private paradise. I looked up the mountain we drove up on Google, traced the side view and extruded it. Then I looked up a picture of the tiny car we were in and did the same, just on a different scale. Next I simply...
